Octoberfest |
Oktoberfest - 16 days of drinking, eating, singing and dancing - used to begin in October. However, in 1880, it was changed to begin in September because of the bad weather in October. Now the Oktoberfest begins on a Saturday in September and ends the first Sunday in October. |
Oktoberfest originated in 1810 in Munich . It all started out as a wedding reception which included horse races in a Wiese (meadow). Because the celebration was so successful, King Maximillian decided to hold one every year in the meadow. The meadow was then named Theresienwiese after Ludwig's bride, Therese. |
As you can see German men wear Lederhosen - leather shorts usually worn with suspenders, white shirts and knee-high stockings. German women are dressed in the colorful Dirndl (flowery folk dresses). Actually not only German, also Austrian and Polish :-) |

In Octoberfest everything is big: Beers, Prezels and ... |

IN our tent : SHOTTENHAMEL: View from the balcony on the The Blasorchester (brass bands) that add to the atmosphere with their Trinklieder (drinking songs) and various other famous songs and pop hits. As you can see - crowd singing: "..Hej, Hej baby, u, oh, I want to know if you be with me..." |
Contests are held for these strong waitresses to see who can carry the most Masskrüge (one-liter beer mugs). One waitress once carried 21 full Masskruege!

This year over 6 million people visited Oktoberfest and they drunk 6.101.200 liters of beer... I contributed significantly to the consumption of beer :-( |
